How to Apply Mascara Flawlessly
To a woman who loves to wear makeup, the eyes are everything. An important part of doing eye makeup is to apply the mascara perfectly. When you’re using it right, it can make you look awesome. Apply it wrong and you’ll risk doing the entire makeup process all over again.
One thing to remember in putting on mascara is to create volume. Volume is key to every mascara application. The only reason you apply it is to make the eye makeup pop out. Eye makeup is the first thing anyone sees on your face so it must be perfect.
But if you’re still learning, here are some important tips on how to apply mascara flawlessly every time:
The Basic Tools
Like a pro, you need a clean space of your own where you can apply your makeup. You’ll need to set up your tools in front of you for easy access. These are what you’ll need:
- A mirror
- Your favorite mascara brand. It’s recommended to have two different kinds: Use a volumizing/thickening mascara for night and lengthening black mascara for day wear.
- An eyelash curler
- An eyebrow brush and eyelash comb
- Your favorite eyeliner pencil brand. Make it waterproof if possible.
- A postit or a small business card (to be explained later)
The Application Process: How To Apply Mascara
Relax and make sure your hands aren’t shaking. Do your eye makeup base as you desire. It’s always best to leave the mascara for last because it would complete the whole look. When you’re ready, do the following steps:
- Take the mascara brush and make sure you get the excess mascara out so it won’t clump when you put it on.
- Start at the base of the upper lashes. Wiggle the brush side to side and then sweep in an upward motion. Do this several times until you get the thickness of the coating you desire.
- The bottom lashes matter too. If you must put on mascara on the upper lashes, the bottom ones need to be done absolutely. Look down and tilt your head forward. Apply the mascara the same way by moving the brush on the lower lashes from side to side until you get the thickness down.
- When pros do it, they don’t get any mascara on the eye lid or on the skin. But if you get scared at first, use a small post it. Put it as a layering underneath the lashes before you apply. That way you can be sure no mascara gets into the skin.
- Allow the mascara to dry. Then take the eyelash comb and give your lashes a light combing to get rid of the mascara clumps on both upper and lower lashes.
- Then, take the curler and use it gently. Don’t squeeze too tightly or you’ll risk the eyelashes to bend drastically upward and you don’t want that. For a nice bend, squeeze the curler for 2 seconds and then let go. Do this 3 times.
- For volume, you can apply a water proof eye liner on the upper water line – the part of the skin on the eyes where the roots of the lashes grow. You can see it immediately when you take a finger and pull up all your upper lashes together. Just apply a thin layer of eyeliner on the water lid. You’ll see a difference where your lashes appear thicker for maximum effect. The dark base helps give the illusion of thickness.
Like most things, it takes a lot of practice. But with time, you’ll start becoming good at this. Mascara will then be applied flawlessly every time and you’ll love the compliments. Give it a try. If you have any tips on how to apply mascara that we didn’t mention then comment down below!
